Zo’n twee jaar geleden ben ik het New Window platform gestart dat zich richt op het proces en de achtergrond van kunstenaars en ontwerpers.
Steeds probeer ik op een andere manier die verhalen te verzamelen en te delen. Onlangs heb ik mijn vader Joost van Haaften (kunstenaar en docent op de Gerrit Rietveld Academie) gevraagd om samen gesprekken te voeren met diverse makers. Het leek mij interessant als twee generaties met een verschillende mentaliteit een dialoog aangaan met kunstenaars en ontwerpers.
In onze zoektocht naar een technicus en opnamestudio stuitte we al snel op Rick Haring die gelijk enthousiast reageerde. Voordat we het wisten konden we van start gaan.
Ontwerper Hozan Zangana en ik hadden een fascinerend gesprek in Milaan (Salone del Mobile 2014). Toen het idee van artist talks ontstond was Hozan de eerste aan wie ik dacht. Hozan ging in op mijn uitnodiging en is daarmee de eerste gast van New Window Radio.
De redactie voor de Grote Amsterdamse Kunstkalender 2016 bestaat uit: Robert Thiemann, Zippora Elders, Gijsje Ribbens, Steven Kuijs, Kathelijn Voets, Woes van Haaften, Maylita Meijer, Joline Platje, Afaina de Jong, Steffie Henderson, Sarah Schulten, Nergiz Gungor, Roos Hollander.
THE GREATEST EXPO NEVER MADE

New exhibitions are being created; not materialized, but all aspects will be recorded in notebooks. If it were cinema, no actual films would be made, only scenarios and storyboards. The process as result.
At first each student writes down the key elements of their desired exhibition in a notebook (handwritten texts + doodles). Then they will pass it on to the next student, who will reflect on it, sharpen and enrich it. This procedure repeats itself. The students become each other’s co–creators. Through peer feedback the exhibitions come to life. This is a project about imagination, anticipation and articulation.
The greatest expo never made is part of Masters of Form as conceived and edited by Bruno Vermeersch, Chef de mission of ‘Masters of Form’ at the Academie van Bouwkunst in Amsterdam.

Met Iksi en Exhibitionists de vormgeving (publicatie + installatie) gedaan voor iona&rineke’s Jij en 899 anderen passen hier precies project tijdens het Over het Festival.
Earlier this year art and design platform New Window initiated ‘One Window #1’, a project for which three different artists were invited to develop new works, all starting with the same tool: one screen printing frame, measuring 140×100cm. The participants: Rogier Arents, Kok Pistolet and Aliki van der Kruijs
“In a time where the majority rather chooses for the easy and cheap digital way of working, silk screen workshops are struggling to stay afloat. The One Window #1 project is meant to show the richness and diversity of the silk screen technique by giving three completely different artists a free hand in exploring this beautiful trade. By giving them one restriction – the use of only one silk screen – the participants are challenged to develop a new outlook on this traditional technique, resulting in new possibilities for its application.” – Woes van Haaften
